An European cultural monument DINKELSBÜHL... Insider tip and destination for a travel through time IT’S NOT AN OPEN-AIR MUSEUM – DINKELSBÜHL IS THE LIVING PRESENT Towers and the town wall ring surround one of the best preserved medieval towns in Germany. The news magazine ‘Focus’ selected the old town as the most beautiful of all old town centres in the entire country. An insider tip and a destination for a ‘travel through time’, according to the editors. Ponds, meadows and parks frame the town and surround the medieval centre like a precious jewel. Protected by the fortified town walls, one of the most beautiful late Gothic churches in South Germany, the St. George`s Minster, the Church of the Holy Ghost and magnificent half-timbered buildings, such as the “Hezelhof” and the “Deutsches Haus” are witnesses of the civic pride and the importance of Dinkelsbühl. Legend has it that during the Thirty Years’ War the children of Dinkelsbühl saved the town from burning and plundering. Therefore the town celebrates the “Kinderzeche”, one of the oldest historic festivals in Germany. The Kinderzeche is accompanied by the famous Dinkelsbühl Boys‘ Band „Knabenkapelle“, a marching band of about 100 young musicians in historic rococo uniforms. The Easter Sunday Concert is their first concert of the year which enthrals their audiences. There is a lot to discover in our medieval town. Enjoy your stay!
