26 Welcome to the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr. to NATO allies and other European partner nations. The rotational armored brigade deployed to Europe has carried out its largest exercise so far, with nearly 1,400 troops and more than 800 vehicles conducting a live-fire exercise here. February In response to the growing rotational force and training troop presence, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria established the 5th Community to better manage Garrison resources and infra structure in the Training Camps, and ensure the efficient operation and integration support to deployment, sustainment, and redeployment operations. 2018 January Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark T. Esper hosts a town hall forum at Tower Bar­ racks Theater Grafenwoehr. 2019 October United Nations recognized the Federal Forestry Office Grafenwoehr, 7th Army Training Command and U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria for their efforts within the UN project declared “Decade on Biodiversity”, and recognized the team behind the project titled “Where red deer care for the landscape; open land management at Grafenwoehr”. November Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo visits Live-Fire Exercise with U.S. Army soldiers in Grafenwoehr and 2d Cavalry Regiment’s Reed Museum located on Rose Barracks in Vilseck. Pompeo served with the regiment during his time in the U.S. Army in the late 1980s while stationed at Merrell Barracks in Nürnberg. The 41st Field Artillery Brigade returned back to Germany after a 13 year long break and uncased its colors in an acti­ vation ceremony at Grafenwoehr. That was combined with an assumption of command and responsibility for the unit, here, Nov. 30. 2020 Defender 20 exercise, originally intended to include 20,000 U.S.-based troops and designed to showcase the military’s ability to mobilize large num­ bers of forces for missions in Europe was reduced in size due to the world­ wide corona pandemic. COVID 19 pandemic changed day-to- day operations at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria.
