Nature Trail Bierlohe and Foot- prints walk Also interesting is the Nature trail Bierlo- he . Experience nature with all senses! A relaxing walk for the entire family! Traces of life you can experience at the Footprints walk. Where or with whom do I leave a mark? Has anyone left his mark on me? The Grafenwoehr middle school dealt with these philosophical questions and produced works of art during a workshop with artists. The final result was the Footprints walk that in- vites you to think about life’s fundamen- tal questions in the amazing atmo- sphere of the old town center. Schoenberg Natural stage The ridge of “Schoenberg” mountain almost reaches the center of Grafen- woehr. While walking through the park- like forest, no one expects such an over- whelming sight. The mighty sandstone blocks of the former quarry draw atten- tion to themselves. Since nearly hundred years the old quarry is a natural stage, where theatre, concerts and festivities take place. In the summer time there is a vivid cultural life at the Schoenberg natural stage. Loop Hiking Trail Schoen- berg-Annaberg A loop hiking trail along the attractive hills of Schoenberg and Annaberg was established together with the renovation of the natural stage on “Schoenberg.” Starting point is the newly built parking at Gößenreuther Weg. There is also an information board which provides visitors with an overview of the route. However, sturdy shoes should be worn. First, go south to the foot of Annaberg and enter the park-like forest behind the historic storage buildings. In a gentle slope, the trail leads up to Annaberg, past the rock cellars, the “Lourdes grot- to,” along a Way of the Cross to Anna- berg Church. Then it goes along a forest clearing in the direction of the elevated tank, the centerpiece of Grafenwoehr’s water supply. From there, you can see the training area when looking south and across Thumbach meadow. The trail then continues to the west, along the ridge of Annaberg mountain which is also known as “Calvarienberg.” The farmlands in this cadastral section are still known by that name. After 500 meters, the border of the military training area forces you to turn north. The “Kat- zenwinkel” area then marks the begin- ning of the wild and romantic nature of Schoenberg mountain. A small path takes hikers back down into a valley named “Grabengrund.” Continue east on the slopes of Schoenberg to the natu- ral stage. From here, it is only a short dis- tance back to the starting point. After your hike, the near-by town center, espe- cially the historical old town, offers hikers many possibilities to stop for food and drink. In the summer months, many beer gardens can be found here as well. The western part of the loop trail leads through an attractive natural area and is ideally suited for recreation. But please remember that this part of the trail is also a haven for flora and fauna. Therefore, we ask that you use this route during the day and keep dogs on a leash. Shoppers will find a variety of restaurants and specialty stores along the Neue and Alte Amberger Strasse. Farmers’ Market Since 2015, every week fresh produce from our region is offered on the Farm- ers’ Market at the Grafenwoehr Mar- ket Square in front of the Rathaus on Thursday from 9 a.m. thru 1 p.m. On special occasions there are different days of action, for example a May or Fall market. The weekly market enlivens the town centre and is very well accepted not only by local citizens. Naturbühne am Schönberg The ridge of “Schönberg” mountain almost reaches the center of Grafen- woehr. While walking through the park-like forest, no one expects such an overwhelming sight. The mighty sandstone blocks of the former quarry draw attention to themselves. For many years, the outdoor stage was used by the Catholic theater group for perfor- mances. This was no longer possible because the constant weather changes worsened its condition. The renovation brought the stage back to life. However, sturdy shoes should be worn. First, go south to the foot of Anna- berg and enter the park-like forest behind the historic storage buildings. Farmers Market On April 23, 2015, the first market was held and over time, its range of goods was expanded. It was a great idea of Mayor Edgar Knobloch to hold a farmers market in front of the town hall because both customers and vendors are totally satisfied with it. Weekly offers range from fresh fish to beef and pork meat, smoked goods and homemade cheese
