Radolfzell has been a market town since it was granted market rights in 1100. Today, the town to­ dayboasts a healthy mix of retail, crafts, service providers and manufacturing industry. In the carfree town centre with its picturesque alleys, some 100 specialist shops, boutiques and stores offer their fare, together with a wide range of restaurants. Rail travellers can enjoy the flowers in the town park close to the railway station while they wait for their trains. In close proximity to the town centre, a new district has emerged with shops, services, health­ care, leisure and sports as well as the seemaxx Outlet Center Radolfzell offering a wide range of brands. It is built on the premises of Schiesser AG, a textile company established in 1875. Milchwerk Radolfzell has earned itself an excel­ lent reputation as a location for conferences, trade fairs and cultural events. In addition to pri­ mary schools in the surrounding villages of Stah­ ringen, Güttingen, Liggeringen, Markelfingen and Böhringen as well as in Radolfzell, there is also a comprehensive school (Gemeinschaftsschule), an intermediate secondary school (Realschule), a general education upper secondary school (Gym­ nasium) and three vocational upper secondary schools. Furthermore, young people can choose from trade schools, vocational schools for dome­ stic and agricultural science, and schools of com­ merce. The spectrum is rounded off with a college of adult education and the Carl Duisberg Centrum with German lessons for specialists and executi­ ves whose native language is not German.
