al settlement stands the town‘s landmark, the late
Gothic cathedral with its 82 metre-high tower. The
relics of the town’s patron saints are kept here,
in whose honour the three-day “Hausherrenfest”
(Patron Saints’ Festival) is held every sum-
mer with a pilgrimage across the lake by the
inhabitants of the village of Moos on the Höri
peninsula. This and other traditional festivals,
such as Fasnacht in this Swabian-Alemannic
carnival stronghold, are a wonderful occasi-
on for the some 30,000 inhabitants and their
guests to come together and celebrate. Friends
from Radolfzell’s twin towns of Istres in Pro-
vence and Amriswil in Eastern Switzerland enjoy
coming to the popular festivals and events, inclu-
ding the colourful “International Day” with Ger-
man and foreign citizens from all over the world.
Radolfzell has been a market town since it was
granted market rights in 1100. Today, the town to-
day boasts a healthy mix of retail, crafts, service
providers and manufacturing industry. In the car-
free town centre with its picturesque alleys, some
100 specialist shops, boutiques and stores offer
their fare, together with a wide range of restau-
rants. Rail travellers can enjoy the flowers in the
town park close to the railway station while they
wait for their trains. In close proximity to the town
centre, a new district has emerged with shops,
services, healthcare, leisure and sports as well
as the seemaxx Factory Outlet Center Radolfzell
offering a wide range of brands. It is built on the
premises of Schiesser AG, a textile company esta-
blished in 1875.
Milchwerk Radolfzell has earned itself an excel-
lent reputation as a location for conferences,
trade fairs and cultural events. To prepare the next
generation for the future, the town has an excel-
lent infrastructure with primary schools in the vil-
lages of Stahringen, Güttingen, Liggeringen, and
Markelfingen, as well as a combined primary and
lower secondary school (Grund- und Hauptschu-
le) in Böhringen. In town, there is an intermediate
secondary school (Realschule), a general educa-
tion upper secondary school (Gymnasium) and
three vocational upper secondary schools. There
are also commercial colleges, agricultural colle-
ges, commercial schools and a vocational college
for fashion and design. The spectrum is rounded
off with a college of adult education and the Carl
Duisberg Centrum with German lessons for spe-
cialists and executives whose native language is
not German.
Sina Koch:
Am besten gefällt mir, dass
wir hier in einer ziemlich
ländlichen Gegend leben.
Es ist alles weniger hek
tisch und aggressiv. Auch
an meinem Arbeitsplatz in
einem großen Supermarkt
fühle ich mich wohl.
