vention were filled with narrow houses. Measuring
just 2,50 m in width, house number 5 is the narro-
west in the old town.
Pulverturm
Als im Rahmen des Eisenbahnbaus der 1860er
Jahre das Gelände der Stadtmauer bis weit in den
See hinein aufgefüllt wurde, verschwand ein Teil
des Rondell-Turms im Boden. Ein gotisch profilier-
tes Gesimse umschließt den oberen Turmteil. Das
abwerfbare Kegeldach sitzt auf dem zinnenartigen
Unterbau mit drei Schießscharten. Die Ostseite
der ehemaligen Stadtbefestigung vom Pulver-
turm entlang des Stadtgrabens (Stadtgartens)
bis zum Höllturm ist noch weitgehend im Zustand
von etwa 1870. Eiserne Ringe an den Mauern des
Pulverturms deuten an, dass hier einst Boote fest
gemacht wurden.
Pulverturm
When the railway was built in the 1860s and the area
around the town walls was filled in, creating new
land jutting far out into the lake, part of the round
tower disappeared into the ground. A gothic cornice
surrounds the upper part of the tower. The conical
roof that could be removed to avoid fire spreading
sits on a crenelated substructure with three arrow
slits. The eastern side of the former town fortifi-
cations reaching from the Pulverturm tower along
the town moat (town park) to the Höllturm tower
has been largely preserved in its state from around
1870. Iron rings on the walls of the Pulverturm indi-
cate that boats were once fastened here.
Lenk-Skulptur
In der Sankt-Johannis-Straße in Radolfzell ent-
stand an einem Neubau zwischen Altstadt und
seemaxx das Skulpturen-Ensemble des in Bodman
lebenden Künstlers Peter Lenk. Es trägt den Titel
„Kampf um Europa“.

centre features a group of sculptures by the ar-
tist Peter Lenk, who lives in Bodman. It is entitled
“Fight for Europe.”

El Nino
Das Kunstwerk „El Nino“, des Bildhauers Ubbo
Enninga, steht an der Radolfzeller Hafenmole im
Wasser. El Nino wird von vielen Einheimischen und
Besuchern auch zur Messung des Wasserspiegels
genutzt, denn je nach Wasserstand, sieht man mal
mehr und mal weniger von der Statue.

bour. Many locals and visitors also measure the
level of the water in the lake by how much of the
statue can be seen.
Schmidtengasse
Bei der zwischen 1100 und 1267 vollzogenen Stadt-
erweiterung wurde die Schmidtgengasse in den um-
mauerten Stadtkern einbezogen. Ursprünglich waren
hier sieben Schmieden angesiedelt, die der Gasse ihren
Namen gaben. Haus Nr. 9 beherbergte vermutlich
die erstmals 1561 urkundlich erwähnte Zunftstube
„Zum St. Christoph“. Bauplatznot innerhalb der
Stadtmauern führte dazu, dass man die Brandgefahr
vorbeugenden Lücken zwischen den Gebäuden
mit schmalen Häusern füllte. Das Haus Nr. 5 ist mit
2,50 m Breite das schmalste im Altstadtkern.
Schmidtengasse
When the town was enlarged between 1100 and
1267, Schmidtgengasse was incorporated into the
walled town centre. The small lane was named af-
ter seven smiths, who originally had their business
premises here. House number 9 was probably the
location of the guild room “St. Christopher”, which
was first mentioned in official documents in 1561.
